Title: The Wind That Shakes the Barley
Rating/Synopsis: 4/5 My favorite period/historical film! It’s centered around the formation of the Irish Republican Army and Sinn Fein in the 1920s! Downsides: cumbersome dialogue in parts (just a tip, turn on the CC/subtitles–makes the film much easier to understand). The production isn’t perfect and there are some points where it’s obvious that it’s being filmed on a studio lot. Upsides: This is a dramatic, political, historical story that is really captivating. If you are unaware of the current political divisions in Ireland, this is a great starting place! Obviously, Cillian Murphy’s big blue eyes don’t hurt one little bit! Great costume design and acting and definitely educational! A tragic, eyeopening snippet of modern Irish political history!
